At the Hoochery, our commitment to crafting exceptional meads is reflected in the careful selection of fresh fruits that grow in the fertile lands of Arizona and Southern California. By incorporating these fruits at the beginning of the fermentation process, we infuse our meads with a subtle yet pronounced flavor that captivates the senses, offering a depth of taste that lingers until the very last drop.
Here are some of the delightful fruits we use to create our unique meads:
We embrace the versatility of oranges by using a harmonious blend of Navels, Valencias, Kara Kara, and other varieties. By allowing these oranges to fully ripen on the tree, we unlock their maximum sweetness, infusing our meads with the luscious taste of sun-ripened goodness.
For a bold lemon flavor, we opt for the robust Eureka lemon rather than the milder Meyer variety. To ensure a harmonious blend of flavors, we use just the right amount of lemon when pairing it with other fruits, preventing it from overpowering the overall taste. When creating Lemon Mead, we find that sweet limes act as the perfect complement, adding a smooth and delightful touch that balances the tartness of the lemon.
Some fruits we like to mix with Lemons: Sweet figs, plums, and juniper berries, creating a medley of flavors that deliver a truly unique taste experience.
Our selection of limes includes both sweet limes and varieties like Mexican, Key Lime, or Barrss (daiquiri limes). Currently, we are experimenting with a Lime and Banana fusion, using a specific banana variety that adds just the right amount of sweetness to the mix.
Pomegranates, with their unique flavor profile, consistently deliver a delightful experience in our meads. Their rich taste adds a touch of sophistication and elegance to every sip.
The longer we leave grapefruits on the tree, the sweeter they become. This natural evolution of sweetness enhances the complexity of our grapefruit-infused meads.
Though not inherently sweet, passionfruits boast a marvelous taste that elevates our creations. In our Orange Passionfruit Mead, we strike the perfect balance between these two flavors, delivering a harmonious and captivating blend.
